After more than 30 years in the family home, Nan made the difficult decision to sell her house and begin a new chapter in Inverness, where she would be closer to her daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter.

But this house was so much more than bricks and mortar.

It was the place where Nan and Grandpa built a lifetime together. The home where generations were welcomed through the front door, where family gathered around the table, and where countless birthdays, Christmases, celebrations, and everyday moments became treasured memories.

Over the years, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren filled the house with laughter, love, and life. Every room held a story. Every corner carried memories of childhood adventures, milestone celebrations, and the simple moments that often become the most meaningful.

Saying goodbye was never going to be easy.

As the sale of the house drew closer, we realised this was likely the last opportunity for our whole family to be together under one roof. We wanted to honour everything this home had meant to us and create something that would last long after the keys were handed over to a new family.

What began as a simple idea soon became something much more meaningful—a final family gathering in the home that had been at the heart of our lives for over three decades.

We wanted more than just a family photograph. We wanted to preserve the feeling of the day: the love, the connection, the stories, and the legacy this home had witnessed for so many years. Most importantly, we wanted to give Nan a lasting reminder of the family she had nurtured and the memories she had created, something she could cherish as she settled into her new home.

There was only one photographer we trusted to capture such an important occasion.

Having worked with Astrid over the years to document precious moments with my daughter in Scotland, I knew immediately she was the perfect person for the job. Her ability to tell a story through her photographs and capture genuine, unscripted emotion is truly remarkable.

When Astrid agreed to my slightly crazy idea—travelling all the way from Scotland to London with her camera in hand and fitting us into her already busy schedule—we couldn’t have been more grateful.

The photographs she created are far more than family portraits. They are a celebration of a home that shaped generations, a tribute to the love that filled its walls, and a reminder that while houses may change, the memories and connections we build within them stay with us forever.

As one chapter closed and another began, Astrid gave our family the most precious gift imaginable: memories we can hold onto for generations to come.
